The combination therapy of Chlorzoxazone and Ibuprofen shows better efficacy and tolerability as compared to Ibuprofen monotherapy in managing low back pain.

For the patients with low back pain, the combination of Chlorzoxazone and Ibuprofen provides a significantly effective treatment as compared to the Ibuprofen monotherapy, as per a piece of information from a recently published open-label, prospective, multicenter study.

A total of 406 participants with acute low back pain were selected and obtained a single tablet of either combination of 500 mg Chlorzoxazone and 400 mg Ibuprofen or 400 mg Ibuprofen three times a day for up to 7 days. Pain improvement presented by Summed Pain Intensity Difference (SPID) and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) at three and seven days postoperatively was considered as the primary outcomes.

C + I group exhibited a higher absolute mean change in VAS scores from baseline till day seven as compared to the I group. Further, reduced mean SPID was noticed for C + I group at days 3 and 7 as compared to the I group. No severe adverse effects or death were described. Common side effects were cold, fever, headache, stomach pain, and gastritis. 94.08% participants of C + I group and 77.33% participants of  I group presented an excellent to good response. Most of the patients of both groups exhibited good tolerability towards the medications. The C + I provide better effects as compared to the monotherapy.
