A ceramide-infused skincare routine shows remarkable efficacy in reducing senile xerosis symptoms, enhancing quality of life, and boosting satisfaction with treatment outcomes.
In a prospective open-label trial published in the "Italian Journal of Dermatology and Venereology", a four-week ceramide-based skincare routine notably alleviated senile xerosis symptoms and chronic discomfort in elderly individuals, improving their quality of life. Participants expressed high satisfaction with the regimen and reported reduced impact of senile xerosis after the treatment period.
Researchers sought to assess how well an easy-to-use skincare routine involving a ceramide-based moisturizing cream and cleanser performed in addressing xerosis in the elderly. Throughout the 4-week treatment trial, subjects adhered to the established protocol for the routine. At various time points (baseline, visit 1; after 28±5 days, visit 2), a healthcare professional conducted evaluations on the volunteers' skin health and quality of life, in addition to a self-evaluation by the subjects.
The treatment with the investigated products resulted in an overall substantial enhancement in all criteria related to skin dryness. Specifically, following the observational period, 97% showed no fissures, 96% reported no or minimal discomfort because of skin dryness, and 93% of individuals had no or minimal skin roughness. The self-evaluations of volunteers on skin dryness aligned with healthcare professional evaluations. Quality of life improved globally in all volunteers, marked by a notable decline in embarrassment and positive impacts on daily and social activities.
Overall satisfaction level was favorable, with 87% expressing contentment, and 93% indicating their intention to persist with the treatment beyond the conclusion of the study. Hence, elderly individuals experienced notable relief from senile xerosis and chronic discomfort after adhering to a ceramide-containing skincare regimen for four weeks, reporting increased satisfaction with the treatment outcomes.
