FDA approved fat cell therapy considering its
significant safety and efficacy in managing sports-related injuries and
associated pain.
Sports involve various physical activities, and this may lead to several events that sometimes, may cause severe injuries to shoulder, elbow, hip or knees. These sports injuries and associated pain are usually treated pharmacologically. However, some patients may fail to respond to conservative therapies like Hyaluronic Acid Injections, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), physical therapy and cell therapy injections. Such patients require another useful and effective treatment alternative to get relief from painful sports injuries. One of the valuable options to treat such injuries is fat cell therapy. Fat cell therapies provide significant benefit and relief in patients with tendon and joint injuries.
Fat (adipose tissue) is one of the prominent elements of the body and provides support and cushioning to protect joints. These are known for its reparative properties (100 to 500 more reparative cells than other body tissues) due to which these fat cells opt for cell therapy to recover damaged joints and tissues. The fat cell therapy shows significant benefit over bone marrow stem cell therapy because the fats can be easily available from some of the body parts such as love handles or belly. This makes this therapy a minimally invasive technique with minor adverse effects. One more benefit of fat cell therapy is that it is not time-consuming. Furthermore, the fat also provides cushion along with repairing the damaged tissues.
Patients also opt for other new treatments like steroid
injections for quick recovery from pain. Steroid injections are proven
effective in improving pain but also show degenerative effects on the tissue
due to which this modality cannot be used as a long-term strategy for pain
management. The FDA gave clearance to the fat cell therapy as a safe option to
treat injuries.
