Functional outcomes decrease in osteoporosis despite optimal treatment and fracture healing, so special classification system and therapeutic algorithms are necessary to improve management.

According to the doctors of University Hospital of Cabueñes, the interimplant femoral fractures are a rare but generally frequent among senior women and prone to individuals who are suffering from osteoporosis. This study was aimed to discover the risk factors associated with the development of these fractures and investigate the management strategies used as well as their impact on the functional and clinical prognosis of patients.

A total of 38 patients who took treatment in Cabueñes hospital and had two ipsilateral femoral implants, distal and proximal were selected for an observational, retrospective case-control analysis. Twenty-eight patients had no fracture and 10 cases found to have interimplant fracture. The impact of gender, age, radiological variables, and type of treatments, comorbidities and clinical evolution were also investigated. 
The gender that met with most of the femoral fractures was females with 80.7 average age. Osteoporosis considered as a significant risk factor in the progression of these fractures. No statistical significance was seen with concern to the radiological variables. Most frequently used management approach was the surgery with the plate of osteosynthesis. The death rate at four years found to be of 40%. However, all fractures recovered, but the ambulation ability of survivors' was diminished. Particular therapeutic algorithms and classification methods are required to enhance the prognosis and management of these fractures.
