What's new?

For immediate and effective post-operative pain management, Ketorolac offers longer relief and reduces the need for additional painkillers.

When it comes to easing pain after dental extractions, the choice of analgesic can be crucial. This study published in the National Journal of Physiology Pharmacy and Pharmacology pits Ketorolac against Paracetamol to see which one of the two provides better relief in the critical hours following tooth removal.

Bikash Gairola and colleagues conducted a randomized, double-blind trial with 80 patients undergoing single tooth extractions. Participants received either Paracetamol 500 mg or Ketorolac 10 mg. Pain levels were measured at various times post-extraction, using the visual analogue scale. They also tracked how long it took for patients to request additional pain relief and their total painkiller use over 24 hours.

Patients who took Ketorolac reported considerably lower pain scores throughout the first 24 hours compared to those who took Paracetamol. Ketorolac also delayed the time to the first additional analgesic request and reduced overall painkiller consumption on the first day.

Ketorolac (10 mg) provides superior pain relief and a longer-lasting effect compared to Paracetamol (500 mg) after the extraction of the tooth.
