What's new?

In patients with acute pulpitis, prophylactic use of ketorolac trometamol improves the efficacy of local anesthesia.

A study published in Stomatologiia depicted that preventive analgesia with ketorolac trometamol improves the efficacy of local anesthesia in the management of patients diagnosed with acute pulpitis in molars. This study was carried out to investigate the efficacy of using ketorolac trometamol, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug [NSAID], as a preventive analgesia to treat acute pulpitis in molars.

Overall, 128 participants (52 men,76 women, mean age 37.4 years) were recruited in the study. For evaluating the efficacy of pain relief and the general well-being of the doctor and participant, two different visual analog scales were used.

Preventive analgesia was found to be effective with ketorolac trometamol at a dosage of 20 mg 15 minutes prior to local anesthesia with 4% articaine with epinephrine 1:200 000. Also, the greater efficacy of local anesthesia, absence of need for alternate anesthesia were registered by patients that coincided with the opinion of the doctor.
