The combination of neuromuscular taping and back-school therapy is associated with considerable pain reduction and functional improvement.
As per the findings of a single-blind randomized controlled trial, back-school therapy followed by 3 applications of neuromuscular taping over eight days was found to substantially enhance function and minimize pain with longer time efficacy in people with chronic non-specific low back pain. Investigators undertook this study to determine the efficacy of a standardized neuromuscular taping lumbar application to alleviate pain and improve function linked with back-school therapy.
Participants were divided into (i) Experimental group: Treated with back-school therapy followed by three applications of neuromuscular taping over eight days, and (ii) Control group: Underwent only back-school therapy. Using pain numeric scale, Oswestry disability index, and Schober test, all the participants were assessed prior to and at the end of therapy, after four and eight weeks from the end of back-school therapy and with a follow-up at 3 months from the last assessment.
In the experimental group, substantial pain decline and functional improvements were witnessed in the follow-up assessments. Thus, neuromuscular taping is beneficial to manage chronic non-specific low back pain.
