Ketorolac injection can be prioritized over Paracetamol infusion for enhanced post-operative pain relief and patient satisfaction.
Pain, a multifaceted and often distressing sensation, can pose challenges in post-operative care, encouraging the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like Ketorolac and Paracetamol. A recent study uncovered a momentous variation in patient satisfaction levels with two frequently used analgesics for post-surgical pain management. Conducted from April to July 2021, this research concentrated on comparing the efficacy of intravenous (IV) injection of Ketorolac 30mg and Paracetamol 1000mg IV infusion in alleviating mild to moderate post-surgical pain.
Using a rigorous randomized controlled trial design with double-blinding, Yosi Budi Setyawan and Meli Rosita collected data from 40 respondents meeting strict inclusion and exclusion criteria. Strikingly, patients reported significantly higher satisfaction levels with the use of Ketorolac IV compared to Paracetamol IV, with a significance value of 0.006 < 0.05.
This research suggests a potential shift towards the routine use of Ketorolac 30mg IV for post-surgical pain relief. However, researchers advocate for further investigation with larger and more diverse populations to confirm the generalizability of these results.
