Sequential therapy outperforms conventional therapy for H. pylori elimination in gastritis patients

According to a trial published in the "Pakistan Journal of Medical & Health Sciences," sequential treatment is more efficient than traditional therapy in eliminating H. pylori in people with gastritis. Researchers compared the effectiveness of standard and sequential regimens in gastritis patients presenting with H. pylori.

In this randomized controlled trial, 232 people who met the inclusion criteria were included. Volunteers were randomly allocated to Group A and Group B. Patients in Group A received the standard triple therapy. On the other hand, sequential treatment was provided to Group B patients. A urea breath test was performed after 30 days.

Reports were evaluated, and effectiveness was labelled if there were no bacteria. Recording of all the data was done via proforma. With SPSS version 21, data was analyzed. The mean patient age was 36.46±12.16 years in the sequential group and 38.63±13.11 years in the conventional group. There were 24.1% (n = 28) females and 75.9% (n = 88) males in the conventional group, whereas, 36.2% (n = 42) females and 63.8% (n = 74) males in the sequential group.

With conventional therapy, effectiveness was attained in 70.7% (n = 82) subjects whereas it was attained in 86.2% (n = 100) subjects with sequential therapy. A profound difference was noted. Thus, sequential therapy more effectively eliminates H. pylori in gastritis patients than conventional therapy.
