Combination of intraoperative/postoperative
steroid, intraoperative PRP injections, surgical excision can be effective in
patients with ear keloids.
As per the outcomes of a study issued in American Journal of Otolaryngology, the use of surgical excision with Intralesional TAC along with platelet-rich plasma was found to have promising results in patients with keloids on the ears.
This study by Erkan Yıldız was performed to examine if intralesional steroid and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) combination in addition to surgical excision is an effective therapy for ear keloids. A comparison of recurrence rates and adverse effects with a 5 years follow up of both therapies was done.
A total of 60 patients (aged 16 and 65 years) with ear keloids were stratified into 3 groups (i.e. Group A, Group B and Group C) with 20 patients in each groups.
Patients in Group A had only intralesional steroid injections; patients in Group B had intraoperative/postoperative steroid injections + surgical excision and; patients in Group C had intraoperative/postoperative steroid + intraoperative PRP injections plus surgical excision.
As compared to Group
A and Group B, patients in Group C had the lowest recurrence rate at 5 years
follow-up. There was no notable observed between two Groups (A and B)
concerning Skin Atrophy and Telangiectasia.
