The therapeutic benefits of topical Piroxicam gel and oral vitamin E were compared in individuals with mild-to-moderate cyclic mastalgia in a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical study.
In lowering cyclic breast pain after two months, topical Piroxicam gel is significantly better than oral vitamin E.
The therapeutic benefits of topical Piroxicam gel and oral vitamin E were compared in individuals with mild-to-moderate cyclic mastalgia in a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical study.
From an outpatient clinic, 70 women with mild to moderate cyclic mastalgia were chosen. For two continuous months, the patients either got topical 0.5% Piroxicam gel four times per day or vitamin E 400IU capsules once every day. Two months later, the pain was assessed using the visual analogue scale (VAS).
As found, 35 subjects finished the trial in each group. Although both drugs reduced pain severity in a safe and effective manner, topical Piroxicam remarkably improved pain management (Figure 1).
Five months after the study's end, analgesics were still needed by nearly half of the participants.
In individuals with cyclic mastalgia, topical Piroxicam gel was shown to be more effective in the mid-term at controlling pain than oral vitamin E. Both the agents were well-tolerated and safe.
