Globally, 1 in 8 women is affected by polycystic ovarian syndrome, PCOS, irrespective of their ethnic background. It is the most frequent endocrinopathy among women. Its clinical indicators comprise of cardiometabolic, dermatological, reproductive and psychological characteristics other than its common symptoms i.e. increased androgens (hyperandrogenism) and irregular menstruation.
PCOS, an endocrine and metabolic disorder, links hyperinsulinemia and hyperandrogenism to increased calorie intake and fat storage, while also affecting emotional well-being and exacerbating eating disorders.
