What's new?

Most people with plantar fasciitis experience pain in the heel with their first steps in the morning. The condition can be temporary, or it may become chronic if ignored.

Nowadays, laser treatments are becoming popular for treating a variety of medical conditions. Many dermatologists use lasers to fix many of the issues their patients deal with. Podiatrists use the laser treatments to help combat the problems associated with plantar fasciitis.

Plantar fasciitis is a common foot problem that accounts for 1 million clinic visits per year. It occurs from small tears and inflammation in the wide band of tendons and ligaments that stretches from the heel to the ball of the foot. Most people with plantar fasciitis experience pain in the heel with their first steps in the morning. The pain often spreads to the arch of the foot. The condition can be temporary, or it may become chronic if ignored.

Recently, a non-thermal laser treatment approved by the Food and Drug Administration for conditions like fibromyalgia and plantar fasciitis. During the treatment, a light beam is placed on the injured area to affect cellular metabolism, protein synthesis, wound healing, and immune response. The hope is that all of this will fight the inflammation, reduce heel pain, and increase recovery time. According to some doctors, there are people that may feel immediate relief from their pain.

Unlike other lasers available, this one is proven to promote cellular regeneration through painless bio-stimulation. It provides patients experiencing chronic knee pain with a non-invasive, efficacious solution to quickly improve their walking comfort and quality of life without surgery. Lewandowski said, cells respond to the wavelength of the laser, which reduces inflammation, helps eliminate pain, increases local blood flow and promotes beneficial enzymatic reactions.

The podiatrist and owner, "Dr. James E. Lewandowski" at Mid-Nebraska Foot Clinic says, “we were getting excellent results with heel pain and other problems. I have developed a treatment regimen, along with the laser, and we are getting excellent results with neuropathy.  I feel we are offering people some true metabolic healing instead of putting them on a bunch of anti-inflammatory medications, which can be harmful to us. I’m very excited with the results we are seeing. The patients are very happy." The treatment is indicated for heel pain, but there are probably 30 different uses for it,” Lewandowski said. “We use it for tendinitis, neuropathy and even fibromyalgia. We are offering a unique approach, especially neuropathy and for chronic heel pain and other painful things that can happen to people’s feet”, he added.

In conclusion, this new technology is a breakthrough for chronic heel pain sufferers, because it offers pain-free treatment with no known side effects or contraindications.
